May he rest in peace এর সোজা বাংলা অর্থ হল ‘উনি যেন শান্তিতে থাকেন’ বা ‘উনার শান্তি কামনা করি’। সাধারনত এই বাক্যাংশ কেউ মারা যাবার পর তার আত্মার শান্তি কামনা করে বলা হয়ে থাকে। বাংলাতে যেমন বলা হয় ‘উনার আত্মা যেন শান্তি পায়’, ঠিক সেভাবে ইংরাজীতে বলা হয় may he rest in peace. পুরুষ হলে বলা হয় may HE rest in peace আর মহিলা হলে বলা হয় may SHE rest in peace. যেহেতু বাংলা ভাষাতে লিংগবোধ থাকে না তাই বাংলাতে দুইই ক্ষেত্রে ‘উনার শান্তি কামনা করি’ বললেই চলে যায়। rest মানে থাকা বা আরাম করা, peace মানে শান্তি। যেমনঃ
