উত্তরমুখী জাহাজ

I saw three ships go sailing by,
আমি দেখেছি তিনটি জাহাজ যেগুলো যাত্রার জন্য তৈরী
Over the sea, the lifting sea,
সমুদ্রের উপরে, উত্থাল এক সমুদ্রে
And the wind rose in the morning sky,
এবং সকালের আকাশে দেখেছি মৃদু বাতাস।
And one was rigged for a long journey.
এবং তাঁর মধ্যে একটি জাহাজ দীর্ঘ যাত্রার জন্য তৈরী।
The first ship turned towards the west,
প্রথম জাহাজ পশ্চিমমুখী হয়ে যাত্রা করল
Over the sea, the running sea,
সমুদ্রের উপরে , এক চলমান সমুদ্রে
And by the wind was all possessed
এবং বাতাসের দ্বারা আচ্ছন্ন হলো সবকিছু
And carried to a rich country.
এবং নিয়ে গেলো কোনো এক অর্থশালী দেশে
The second ship turned towards the east,
দ্বিতীয় জাহাজটি পূর্বদিকে রওয়ানা দিল
Over the sea, the quaking sea,
সমুদ্রের উপরে, এক কম্পিত সমুদ্রে
And the wind hunted it like a beast
এবং বাতাস তাঁকে জন্তুর মতো তাড়াতে শুরু করলো
To anchor in captivity.
জাহাজটি নোঙর এর বন্দিদশায় পরিণত হল।
The third ship drove towards the north,
তৃতীয় জাহাজটি চলতে লাগল উত্তর মূখী হয়ে
Over the sea, the darkening sea,
সমুদ্রের উপরে, এক অন্ধকার সমুদ্রে
But no breath of wind came forth,
কিন্তু নিঃশ্বাস নেওয়ার মতো বাতাস পেলো না,
And the decks shone frostily.
এবং জাহাজের পাটাতন শীতল উদাসীনতায় জ্বলে উঠলো।
The northern sky rose high and black
উত্তরের আকাশ পরিণত হয়েছে কালো মেঘে
Over the proud unfruitful sea,
এক নিরর্থক গর্ভিত সাগরের উপরে
East and west the ships came back
পূর্ব এবং পশ্চিমে যাওয়া জাহাজগুলি ফিরে এসেছে
Happily or unhappily:
সুখে অথবা দুঃখে
But the third went wide and far
কিন্তু তৃতীয় জাহাজটি চলে গেছে অনেক দূরে
Into an unforgiving sea
কোন এক নির্মম সমুদ্রে
Under a fire-spilling star,
আগুণ ছড়ানো তারার নিচে,
And it was rigged for a long journey
এবং ইহা পাল সজ্জিত হয়ে দীর্ঘ যাত্রার উদ্দেশ্যে ছুটে ছলেছে।
